News Update for 6/13/18

It appears that Avon Park City Manager June Fisher will take over where her predecessor left off. By a 3-2 margin, the Avon Park city council voted to leave her salary at $125,000 a year.
Mayor Garrett Anderson lobbied for a lower figure – saying that would leave room for raises. Vice Mayor Brenda Gray, who negotiated the pact, contended that Fisher would not necessisarily need a raise.
Councilman Jim Barnard raised several other issues, including the city manager’s vehicle policy, the severance pay and paid leave provisions. However, council declined to discuss any of those issues.

Polk County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Winter Haven woman on charges she had been performing unlicensed medical procedures. The arrests came when deputies raided the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” weight loss clinic in Cypress Gardens.
Apparently, 19-year-old Jesse Lopez had claimed to be a registered nurse. Lopez – who has no medical credentials, was arrested yesterday by Polk deputies with the help of agents at both the Drug Enforcement Administration and Florida Department of Health.
A physician that works at the location, identified as Sualeh Ashraf, also is under investigation
