News Update for 6/25/19

Highlands County Sheriff’s officials have released the name of of a second body found this weekend. It is said to be that of Taylor Jeral Morgan of Lake Placid.
The 18-year-old Morgan was last seen in Sebring on June 18. The remains of Morgan and Janquill Terrell Williams were found in separate areas between Sebring and Avon Park this past Saturday. Authorities have not yet said how they died. However, it is being deemed a homicide investigation.
No motive has been released. Sheriff’s officials have asked anyone with information about the killings to please contact them.

An Avon Park man reportedly was killed yesterday in a Hardee County traffic crash. Florida Highway Patrol reports say 38-year-old Sean Rich was westbound on State Road 64, when his Chrysler Sebring went left of center and collided with an oncoming tractor-trailer rig.
The semi took evasive action, but was unable to avoid the crash. No charges have been filed.

Avon Park city council members last night named a second special magistrate to take care of code enforcement issues. Selected was Thomas Thanas of Bradenton. Currently a member of the Dye Harrison law firm, Thanas qualifications include serving as a judge, city manager, and city attorney among other things.
Council members hope that appointing a second magistrate will help to clear a long backlog of code enforcement cases in the City of Charm.

Sebring Utilities officials have announce they have received the “all clear” and have rescinded a public notice about e-coli bacteria in a couple of their wells.
Utilities Director Bob Boggus says one of the suspect wells – at the Country Club of Sebring – was not even in service at the time. The other well was taken out of service as soon as the notice was received, However, all samples now are clear.

Residents who want to have an opportunity to ride the Sebring International Raceway can do it tonight – but it won’t be in a car. The Highlands Peddlars are hosing a “Bike the Track” event this evening from 5:30 to 7:30. Those wishing to cylce ’round the raceway will need to have helmets – and of course, a bicycle.
Those interested need to gather at SEVEN – The Sebring Raceway Hotel, no later than 5:45.
