News Update for 8/20/18

Better than 600 residents turned out for early voting in the August Primary elections over the weekend here in Highlands County. Locations are open at the Avon Park city council chambers, the Supervisor of Elections Operations Center on Kenilworth Blvd. in Sebring and the Lake Placid Town Hall.
Highlands County Supervisor of Elections Penny Ogg says that so far, everything has gone pretty smoothly. The polls will be open daily thru Saturday the 25th. Primay Election Day is set for Tuesday, August 28.

A woman reportedly was struck by a CSX freight train in Highlands County and lived to tell about it. She apparently was in a wooded area just south of the Moon Ranch Road intersection when the incident occurred.
Neither her name nor the extent of her injuries has been released. She was airlifted out after being located by Highlands County Sheriff’s deputies and EMS units who had to use off road vehicles to get to her location.
