News Update for 8/6/18

If you think there have been more planes flying around the area, you’re right. Officials at the Avon Park Air Force Range have announced there will be increased night and weekend traffic here for the next couple of weeks.
Officials at the bombing range have not released the name of the exercise, who will be involved or any other details.

Another drowning incident at H.L. Bishop Park. Highlands County Sheriff’s reports say apparently 37-year-old Billy Dawson jr was attempting to swim across the inlet yesterday morning when he became distressed and went under.
Lake Placid Police and Highlands County Sheriff’s deputies tried to reach the man in the murky water – but were unsuccessful.
His body later was recovered in the swim area in about 15-feet of water.

A Boil Water Notice remains in effect for the Lake Placid area. All customers on the Lake Placid Water System south of Lake McCoy – including all of Highlands Park – to boil any and all tap water to be used for drinking or cooking.
Town officials are awaiting a water sample test. Apparently, a malfunction in the Lake Placid water treatment facility is to blame.
