News Update for 10/14/20

Sebring police reportedly are investigating a homicide. Officers responded to a call of shots being fired int he area of Highlands and Martin Luther King Blvd. about quarter to six last night.
There they found one man who had been shot and killed, and another with multiple gunshot wounds. He subsequently was treated and released from an area hospital.
Authoities say they have not been able to get much information on who the shooter or shooters were. They are asking anyone with information please to step forward.
Sunday night, a man was hit by a stray bullet in the Highlands Homes area of Sebring as he sat inside his house. It remains unclear if any suspects have been detained in either of those incidents.

One person was injured yesterday afternoon in a 2-vehicle accident at Highway 27 and Vicki Drive in front of the Lakeshore Mall. Authorities have released no names or other details.

Polk County Sheriff’s officials are looking for a vehicle in connection with a hit and run accident in the Frostproof area. They believe it is a Chevrolet or possibly GMC pickup with damage to the right side, possibly missing a mirror.
Authorities say a man identified as Jay White was riding a bicycle in the area when he was sideswiped. The driver of the vehicle apparently did not stop.

Officials of the School Board of Highlands County have announced they have a new App for your telephone. Parents and others can use it to stay informed of notifications and updates from the system.
Users also will be able to access to school and district information and resources. The App will connect to individual schools give information during critical events.
