News Update3 for 10/22/19

It’s going to be a big meeting for the Highlands County School Board tonight. In fact, it’s so big, they had to move the session to the Sebring Middle School Auditorium. The action was taken to accommodate the number of students being honored in the Florida Standards Assessment Test.
Officials said the volume of students and family members would not have fit in the Garland Boggus meeting room at the School Board district offices.
In other action, the board will get their annual update from the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps, will look at the development of a student Crimewatch program and consider the development of school board rules and regulations on the administration of medical marijuana on school campuses.

Earlier this month Highlands County rolled oput a new website. Now, officials of the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office say they too have a new internet presence. Calling it a “vast improvement” over their old website, authorities report that HighlandsSheriff.org is much more user friendly and easier to search.
New features include a social media feed, a translator and a built-in screen reader and other tools for those who need assistance navigating the site.

It’s happened again. Somebody who bought a Fantasy 5 Lottery ticket in Sebring is due for a cubic infusion of cash. The winner is worth $28,734.62 – before taxes. It was one of six winners in that drawing across the Sunshine State. Others were sold in Vero Beach, Tarpon Springs, St. Petersburg and Miami Beach.
